Pikes Peak is a mountain in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, 10 miles west of Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is located within the Pike National Forest, and is one of Colorado's 54 fourteeners. The upper portion of Pikes Peak is a federally-designated National Historic Landmark.
An off rode side trip while on the way to The National Sand Dunes State Park provided me with a panoramic view of storm clouds gathering on the 13,000 ft peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range. The Sangre de Cristo Mountains are the southernmost subrange of the Rocky Mountains. They are located in Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico. The mountains run from Poncha Pass in South-Central Colorado, trending southeast and south, ending at Glorieta Pass, southeast of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
